Samsung Builds its Largest Mobile Phone Factory in Vietnam

Samsung embarked on a US$2 billion project to build its second Vietnamese mobile phone factory in Thai Nguyen, according to a 27 March news report by the Saigon Times Daily. The plant, which will focus on the production of mobile phones, Smartphones, and tablets, is slated for operation in late 2013, and will reach full capacity of 120 million units per year by 2015. Along with Samsung's first plant built in 2009 in Bac Ninh, Vietnam will become Samsung's largest overseas production base, taking up around 50% of its overall mobile phone production. In addition, Samsung will also invest US$1.2 billion to construct a factory dedicating to the production and assembly of microprocessors and ICs at the same site, according to the report.
